The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Nursing Science (International Program) engages the Faculty of Nursing at Thammasat University in an interactive relationship with the School of Nursing at The George Washington University and the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in the U.S. These institutions confer and participate with one another in formulating a framework within which to execute the program of study and to arrange for the exchange of instructors and students by specifying the various conditions for the initial phase of the program.
Academic System
The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Nursing Science is a full-time program and is self-funded. The duration of each semester is described as follows:

- Requirements for Undertaking the Program of Study
The requirements for those entering the program of study are based on Thammasat University Regulations on Graduate Studies A.D. 2010/ B.E. 2553, Article 7. They are also based on the Thai Qualifications Framework for Higher Education in Nursing Sciences (TQF. 1) and the following requirements:
3.1 The applicant must have competed study toward a master’s degree in nursing science or equivalent in a related field, either within Thailand or abroad, from an accredited educational institution with a cumulative grade point average no lower than 3.00 (out of 4.00).
3.2 If the applicant has completed a master’s degree in another health science, the student must take nursing theory courses and nursing practical courses. If the student has experience in either teaching or clinical work, the student needs to take only the theory courses.
3.3 The applicant must have conducted research and have had her/his research published in academic journals of international or, at a minimum, national standing.
- Selection of Candidates for the Program of Study
4.1 Those entering the Program must pass an interview examination.
4.2 The applicant must have taken one of the following exams: TU-GET, TOEFL iBT, or IELTS. No more than two years shall have lapsed between the time of the test results and the time of the application to the Program.
4.2.1 Applicants must have a TU-GET score no lower than 550 or a TOEFL Institutional Testing Program (ITP) score no lower than 550, or a TOEFL Internet-based (iBT) score no lower than 79, or an IELTS score no lower than 6.5.
4.2.2 If the applicant has an English language test score lower than those stated in article 4.2.1, he or she may be accepted conditionally to the program. These applicants must have a TU-GET score no lower than 400 or a TOEFL Institutional Testing Program (ITP) score no lower than 400, or a TOEFL Internet-based (iBT) score no lower than 32, or an IELTS score no lower than 4.5. These students that are conditionally admitted then must pass the requirements of article 4.2.1 before graduating from the program.
4.3 An applicant whose origin is a foreign country where the official language is English shall be exempt from the required submission of English-language test results.
4.4 An applicant that graduates from an English program less than two years from the time of his/her application to the Program shall be exempt from the required submission of English-language test results.
4.5 Other conditions will be set in accordance with the acceptance announcement for applicants for graduate study at Thammasat University and for the Faculty of Nursing.

The qualifying examination (QE)
the purpose of the qualifying examination (QE) is to evaluate a doctoral student’s knowledge related to theory and domain of knowledge as well as scholarly inquiry pertaining to the area of the student’s interest. The specific objectives are to move to candidacy, to begin preliminary work on the dissertation, and to provide students the opportunity to engage in scholarly discourse with the faculty and obtain expert guidance.
Timeframe
The Ph.D. in Nursing Science Program at Faculty of Nursing, Thammasat University Qualifying Examination is required for students who complete core course work subject. The exam is offered three times each year. Student may request to take the exam by submitting Qualifying Examination Request Form Ph.D.005 QE request Form
Student Qualification
A doctoral student is eligible to take the qualifying examination after completion of core courses (16 credits) and pass with GPA at least 3.00. The exam is offered three times each year.
Request for Examination
Students who wish to take the examination in a given semester should submit for Qualifying Examination Request Form not later than two weeks prior to the exam date.
